We all could use a Trunk Monkey! ;)

(I realize that's actually a chimp, but it's still funny!)

Kitchen Table Computers: "Resources and Information for Ordinary People Who Want to Build Their Own Computers." Yes, it is possible. My dad built my computer for me (with components I purchased), and it's a wonderful PC.

It's been a long time since I've done a Friday Five, but this week's is too interesting to pass up!

1. If you owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?
Fusion.

2. If you owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
New & used books; notebooks & journals. I'd also have a small coffee shop attached.

3. If you wrote a book, what genre would it be?
Probably a collection of non-fiction essays.

4. If you ran a school, what would you teach?
How to publish online: weblogs, e-zines, personal homepages, etc.

5. If you recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
A little bit of everything: It would definitely be eclectic! I'd probably lean more to the pop rock side of things, though.

This is cool: Blog Change Bot is a blog monitoring service which updates you via AOL Instant Messanger when a blog you are interested is updated.

If you'd like to be updated via AIM when eclectica is updated, click:

The nicknames meme that has been going around...

› If you call me Joanna, you're like most people.
› If you call me Jo, you're a family member or friend.
› If you call me JC, you're one of my brothers.
› If you call me Jo-izy, you're April or one of my short track friends.
› If you call me Josie, you're my mom.
› If you call me Punkin or JoJo, you're my dad.
› If you call me Joanne or JoHannah, you annoy me immensely.

Something new from Google: local.google.com

Speaking of Google, their St. Patrick's Day logo is very nice.

From Britain's National Archives: "See colour images of the original wills of selected famous people, including William Shakespeare, Oliver Cromwell, Jane Austen, Sir Francis Drake, Samuel Pepys and Christopher Wren."

Some wills, like Shakespeare's (PDF file), can be viewed for free, but to see others, you'll have to pay £3 ($5.40) each.

This looks cool: BooksFree.com. It's like NetFlix, but for books. I may have to check it out. [via willa]

I'm fickle when it comes to eclectica's layout: I've changed it again. We'll see how long this one lasts! ;)

I still mainly use Google to search the web, but I've begun to use other search engines as well, such as AllTheWeb and Teoma. I'm interested in the search results Google leaves out.

Do any of you use a search engine besides Google; and, if so, what is it?

Did you know that G.W. Bush is Marilyn Monroe's 9th cousin twice removed? Yeah, neither did I. See some of the famous people that President Bush and John Kerry are related to here.

For hours of entertainment, check out mental_floss' online library, which contains all their previous Facts-of-the-Day and Quizzes-of-the-Day.

I've picked up a hardcopy of mental_floss before. It was almost like reading a website, in the fact that all the articles were short and very easy to read. It's a great mag to to read on a flight, when you can't totally immerse yourself in a book.

"Wikitravel is a project to create a free, complete, up-to-date and reliable world-wide travel guide. So far we have 1253 destination guides and other articles written and edited by Wikitravellers from around the globe. "

That's a really awesome site! I should probably add some information about Corpus Christi.

I haven't seen Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ -- and probably won't see it. But I found this site to be interesting: BeliefNet's round-up of criticism and debate about the movie.

British girl named Diot Coke in 1379: "Naming your child after a popular soft drink could be seen as a little bit faddish, but the parents of young Diot Coke might be forgiven - they gave their baby daughter the name way back in 1379."

City that inspired Narnia fantasy: With work under way on a film of CS Lewis' The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, BBC News Online's Greg McKevitt investigates the roots of its Belfast-born author and the Northern Ireland settings that fired his boyhood imagination. [via quiddity]

(I know I've been linking to a lot of Narnia-related stuff lately. I'm just really looking forward to the movie!)

Award-Winning Science Fiction Writer Looks at the Future of News: "David Brin envisions a future in which the world is plastered with e-info -- virtual Post-It notes, e-advertisements and other data -- that we can access via glasses, earbuds and other technologies that link wirelessly to databases and instantly deliver information to us."

I've implemented a few changes: I'm finally using a weblog tool (Blogger) and have a "real" comment function, instead of just a guestbook, so feel free to comment away! Oh, and there's a new layout, too, as you can see. I archived the February entries here.

Hopefully, with these changes, I'll be updating more often!
